Camping Birkelt
Outdoor sports
The Müllerthal is a real hikers paradise. Lush forests, spectacular rocks and serpentine creeks are the trade mark of this nature park. Enjoy the peace and breathe lots of fresh air in the most beautiful surroundings of Luxembourg. Straight from the campsite you can access the Müllerthal trail, a 100km hiking route that leads you along the most scenic sites of the region between Larochette and Echternach.
You can also do horseriding on Camping Birkelt. We run horseback riding trips through the forests and neighbouring surroundings. Only for riders with at least 3 years experience and from age 12 years!
Larochette offers a challenging Mountainbike route of 30km through the forest. At this moment the Müllerthal region is busy setting up a network of mountainbike routes which will link most of its villages up to Echternach. Mountainsbikes are for hire 12 km from the campsite in Diekirch.
Canoeing on the Sûre is an exciting and adventurous attraction for everyone. The Sûre is a relatively calm river, previous experience is not needed. For groups we can arrange transport there and back.
Outdoor adventure trips to a ropecourse nearby are also possible. In Vianden, the ropecourse has no less than 45 different positions in total. Guests may choose between the easy and the difficult course. This activity lasts about 2 hours. For groups and during the summer we can cater for transport there and back.
The Müllerthal’s typical sandstone rocks can also be explored by rock climbers. This is possible in Berdorf with a day permission from the environment authorities in Luxembourg. Applications for permission have to be handed in at least 15 days prior to the day of climbing. Click here to download the application form. If you wish to plan your trip to Luxembourg with a rock climbing experience, we are happy to help you through the administrative procedures.
In case of bad weather, we can refer you on to a big Indoor climbing wall in Echternach.
Luxembourg is also a good destination for fishing. In the lakes, fish ponds and rivers you can catch trout, pike, perch, eel and carp. Do not forget to obtain your fishing license at the district Commission! We gladly inform you further.
